Automatic Solar Pool Water Heating Control

SUNREG23 Control System SUNREG23 Control System
The microprocessor-controlled unit automatically extracts the maximum amount of heat from sunlight for your pool or hot tub until the desired temperature is reached. It starts operating at dawn and continuously checks whether it is possible to maximize heat gain up to the set water temperature. At the same time, it prevents overheating and protects the water quality. The controller adapts to local conditions, so you don’t need to worry about switching the heating or filtration on and off during the swimming season.

Water Circuit Connection with Solar Heating

In the basic configuration, the controller monitors the water temperature and regulates the water flow through the solar panels. The system connects to the outlet between the pump and the pool and works as an open valve for normal circulation or filtration, and as a bypass for the solar heating loop. In most cases, you only need to replace the manual valve with a motorized valve.

You can use 32 mm or 38 mm hoses depending on your pool setup, or connect the bypass to your existing fixed installation.

The system includes two temperature sensors that measure the pool outlet temperature and the solar panel outlet temperature. The motorized valve opens or closes the main water path as needed to maximize heat gain while preventing overheating on hot days.

If you also want automatic evening filtration, simply add a motorized valve to the filtration bypass.

Installation is Simple

If you already use solar water heating, just replace the manual bypass valve with a motorized one equipped with temperature sensor wells.

Connection of the SUNREG23 / SUNREG[Wi] Control Unit

SUNREG23 Electrical Wiring

The heart of the system is the control unit, to which you simply connect the pump, temperature sensors, and the heating bypass valve.

The configuration is easy and intuitive. The factory default pool temperature is set to 27°C — you only need to adjust it to your preference, and SUNREG23/SUNREG[Wi] will take care of everything in automatic mode. If you prefer full manual control, just switch to manual mode and activate only the components you want.

To prevent forgetting to turn the system off, a timer function is included. After the set time expires, the system switches back to automatic mode and prepares for the next day.

The heating regulation uses an automatic motorized valve controlled by the unit based on the temperature difference between the solar collector and the pool water. When the collector temperature exceeds the pool temperature, the valve allows water to flow through the collectors, heating the pool.

The system maintains the water temperature according to your settings, preventing overheating during peak summer days. The existing pool pump circulates water through the roof-mounted collectors. Once the collectors fill and water returns normally, the additional load on the pump is negligible.

You can control the pump and heating operation time using the ambient light level. This ensures the heating starts automatically in the morning and runs only when heating is effective — with no extra electricity costs. In other words, once installed, the system provides free pool heating, making it a smart and cost‑effective investment.

SUNREG-Wi
SUNREG-Wi

The SUNREG[Wi] control unit enhances your comfort and extracts maximum heat from the sun for your pool or hot tub. Once connected to the internet, you can monitor and adjust settings using a mobile app.

Fully automatic operation without the need for manual control. At dawn, it begins monitoring heat output from the solar panels. On hot days, it prevents the water from overheating above the set value.

The unit is fully waterproof and can be exposed to rain and splashing water. You can safely leave it outside next to the pool equipment. Protection rating IP67.

Manual mode gives you full control over all system functions. You can start the pump, heating, and filtration. Want to vacuum the pool? Just start the pump and begin.

A timer in manual mode prevents forgetting. Set the duration for which the unit should operate manually. After it ends, it switches back to automatic mode and waits for the next sunny day.

The light sensor in automatic mode handles regulation. It checks the current pool water temperature and the temperature from the solar panels, then starts heating the water.

Internal clocks allow you to set switching times when you don't want to use the light sensor. You can set the time from which the pool should start heating.

Option for automatic evening filtration when a bypass is installed. Set the duration and SUNREG23 will handle the evening filtration. The pool will be ready the next morning.

Quick and easy setup. SUNREG23 is controlled with three buttons, making operation intuitive even without a manual. The up arrow activates automatic mode, the down arrow manual mode.
